Yeah cheers man, i've read so many things, i water my trees regularly, some are dry on top others are still water logged. I am thinking about taking one out of the pot because it seems to have bad drainage and might stick it in a syrofoam box for a couple years =]
Looking at getting an Elm soon, but i might not even try because it won't be as good as yours :)

:( Plse dont be dicouraged, everything takes time, in Bonsai, time is all you need.Instead of being dicouraged by nice looking trees-, use them as a basis to model your own trees around, use them as inspiration to grow your own unique Bonsai. "Dont give up" and try to have FUN rather than aiming to have the "best Bonsai ever". HAVE FUN, thats the key to the whole thing,,,,,, Craig

Hi All, today i trimmed most of the extending shoots as i dont want the finer branching to thicken too much.Took off some of the wiring which was starting to get a little tight aswell. The wiring effort was well worth it ,the tree now is starting to look good,so i'll start to get the fine ramification of branching started next spring.. I post for you todays pic and a comparison pic from August,,, thanks for following my thread ,, Cheers Craig

Hi Craig,

Just came across this thread and am very impressed with what you're doing. Thanks for such a detailed diary of the tree which is a great tutor to beginners like me.

Definitely subscribing to this thread.

Cheers,

Hi Graig,

Great tree. I am struggling to decide if I prefer the original or new improved version of the trunk. They both look good. Have you any thought on the type of pot you will use? :lost:

Hi all :) , after taking the wire from the new leader i found it had started to cut in a little, so caught it just in time, just goes to show how easy the branches can thicken. The small graft that i'm trying seems ok at this stage, last week it started to swell a bit at the cambium join, and today it has started down the bottom and on the top rear part aswell as the front is swelling more.. :fc: at this stage,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Craig

Yes. it seems to be taking. Nice to see refining a tree here in action.

Refining the outline/fine twiggy growth of the tree you will have to cut it back quite a bit next spring?

Keep us updated.

Today i had this tree out of it's pot so i could get some pics of the base. As you can see it looks quite different when the roots are exposed. I cleaned up the carved section aswell, this tree has been growing so strong this year, which is good to see :)also the graft didnt take so its gone, Regards Craig
