Tess's Nursery at Morayfield is very good. She has alot of good stock, tools and pots available. Prices are pretty reasonable too. I'm often out there
Robins nursery is a bit cramped, but he has alot of good quality bonsai!! Not a great deal of untrained stock, but what he has is good wuality. He has some sensational old figs!! Also has a huge selection of pots!!
When I was at Aust. Bonsai Grower last (probably been almost a year) had a heap of stock. Heaps and heaps. Varying in size from basic starters, to big, advanced stock. There were quite a few
pre-mades" as well, as well as a selection of pots.

Hey guys, sorry to bring up an old thread but does anyone know the address of the bonsai nursery that is located in acacia ridge? This nursery also stocks a range of pond goldfish. I found this nursery last year online and bought some bonsais there but I can't find it again on the net/unsure of directions to get there. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Are you thinking of Robin Godfrey at Oxley ? There is no bonsai nursery at Acacia Ridge - my folks live there

Hey tony, It definitely wasn't at Oxley. It may have not been in acacia ridge exactly but I am pretty sure it was quite near to acacia ridge? Anyone have any ideas of any that are located near acacia ridge (note: stocks quite a lot of goldfish and the nursery is dedicated for bonsai. The nursery also has a little shed with sprinkles just for growing moss)

I just went to visit Bonsai Northside Nursery at Morayfield in SE Queensland and was welcomed by Tess and Selby and had an enjoyable hour and a half (not nearly long enough) looking at their collection of trees, nursery stock and pots. I can really recommend it is worth the drive, there was a full spectrum from starters to mature bonsai available, including large specimen trees. There was a good selection of pots of which I just had to buy a couple and bring them home with me. The best part was being welcomed and having a good bonsai chat.

Totally agree with you Ashley, I was up there last month, Tess and Selby are wonderful people to chat to about all things bonsai, great place to have a wander around, and then who can resist buying something. I couldn't buy anything live as I still had over a week of travelling ahead (back to Melb), but bought a beautiful glazed Japanese pot and some Red Ball akadama that had apparently been 'archived' (in somebody's shed) for many years. Great place to visit if you've got your own transportation

Anyone have any recent experience with Defined Garden on Chevron Island?

I tried to visit last Thursday with my young son, while we had some spare time during a Gold Coast family holiday. Unfortunately, we didn't even get through the front door. The massive dog which is kept chained near the entry, barked when it saw us walk up and scared the absolute crap out of my son. The guy raking up leaves out the front, who I assume was Roger, made little attempt to help after seeing us. He even made it more difficult by pulling a trolley half way through the door, before patting the dog and telling me I could bring my son through the little gap that remained.

Although the dog didn't bother me and I'm sure the bark was all show, I was in no way going to get any closer with my poor son crying and clearly distressed. At that point, I turned around and left quite annoyed and disappointed.

I always warn my kids there will be a big dog and we try to spot him first, and then we have fun guessing if he will bark and how big his bark will be. This seems to prepare the kids in advance.

I haven't been to a bonsai nursery that doesn't have a big dog!

Interesting, perhaps its an east coast thing or just my limited experience with the few nurseries here in SA. I've never come a cross a dog at a nursery before, especially one that size.

Unfortunately, my son is only 16 months old so he wouldn't understand a game like that yet.

It's probably the fact that Roger is fed up with having plants stolen in the middle of the day!

My boy was probably about 18 months the first time, but he does seem to be a real animal lover. The first time he was a bit sheltered though as I knew what to expect. He loves going to see the big doggy but doesn't stray to far from my side still.

I also like Steve's. dad and I loaded up the spare space in my car with swamp cypresses from there before we left Brisbane. I think the dogs are called Boris and Ethel.
