Ken - I think your mystery tree is either Cercis (redbud, judas tree, etc) or Cercidiphyllum (katsura). Leaves are similar in both. Cercis flowers profusely along the trunk and branches, often before the leaves are out.

Jow, I'd say just not enough time to let the tree feel that winter was really coming on. It will be really interesting to see someone give this experiment a real go sometime. See you next weekend.

Autumn has finally hit the garden here at Shibui Bonsai in Yackandandah.

That is some beautiful colour you have going there Shibui! Now that its hit the minuses in Canberra I'm hoping my trees in pots will start to change.

Hi Shibui , very nice color over your way . We had a flurry of sleat and snow yesterday so i think winter is here with very little color.Its patchy at best but they are still alive so that's a bonus .

You have some great colour there Shibui! Is that A.P "lime green" an Acer Japonica or shirasawanum (full moon, half moon, or autumn moon)? It looks like the leaves are less palmate (is that a word) than the others.

My liquidambar is half yellow, half green, and my sango kaku is just starting to turn. But my tridents are still as green as can be

From memory, Palmatums can have 5, 7 or 9 lobed leaves.

Great showing of colour.

My bonsai's are showing little to no colour
Most of the other trees around are showing or droped there leaves, but my little bonsai are just green and powering on.
Heres hopeing i can get 1/2 the colour you guys are showing.

I was meaning they are not as deeply dissected in between the leaves "fingers". Google image search "full moon maple" and you will understand better what I am asking.

Been a bit busy at the convention but back home now so time to catch up.

I believe the maple I've identified as 'Lime Green' is an Acer palmatum. As Mojo tried to point out to you, palmatum varieties can have 5,7 or 9 points to the leaf and also are very variable in how deeply the leaves are divided and the edges dissected so there is a huge range of leaf shapes and sizes.

hey all i live on the sunshine coast in queensland and have got a trident maple and am just wondering how long it takes for the leaves to change/drop up here? down the road from me is a park with a large trident and it has changed colour and started dropping leaves so how long do you expect ill have to waith until mine does the same? or at least stays green and drops its leaves

hey green horn, im in brissy but the next couple of days there should be showers happening, maybe put it under cover somewhere and feed it less

thanks stick i havent fed it at all since i got it but have been watering and keeping out when its been raining so should i stop watering altogeather and keep it under cover? or perhaps inside? cause i dont have much covered area

It sounds like you may be keeping it indoors?? If so you need to keep it outside. Only some tropical species can survive inside.

Pot culture versus ground culture is different in the time when leaves drop. It seems it takes a lot longer for trees in pots to drop foliage compared to street/ground trees of the same species in the same area
