The particularly formal trees have a disjunction between the rough wild trunk and the ultra-plastic over-groomed foliage that jars badly. And yes, these issues are essential to discuss. I think there should be a rule: No more than fifty words without a photo or a diagram.

Mike, I'd like to hear your diagrams set to music. Crazy.

If you like the look of trees from 45yrs ago, grow your own trees in that manner. If you like the modern manicured-to-the-enth-degree look then grow your trees in that manner. To say that fashion has no place in bonsai shows ignorance of the art's long history.

As interesting as this thread has been to read, I wonder why some of the more noxious remains (mods?) And am reminded why I stay away from the majority engaged in the art in this country.

My 2c.
Peace in bonsai hah

Because as mods we gave up long ago trying to comprehend the thread, but were happy to let it continue until it was reported that it was getting out of hand

When it comes to People calling others names, and drawing rubbish over trees without any context or explanation, and links to Benny Hill :palm: then I tend to call enough is enough.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everyone's aesthetic will vary. I assume we practice the art of bonsai because we obtain personal enjoyment from it.... Do what pleases you.... And respect what others do.
