Matthew, I am green with envy.

A wonderful setup - I am torn between your garden and your bonsai collection; I love both.

It makes my efforts to move/juggle pots around my reasonably small courtyard garden (both orchids and bonsai) - chasing light - somewhat laughable and perhaps futile by comparison. Alas, that's my reality and I am happy nonetheless.

I appreciate this glimpse into your private collection. It got me thinking that there must be some wonderful private collections that we never see. So thanks for the view. Much appreciated.

My mum and step-dad were lucky to get invited to a private collection in QLD recently. Long story but my dad's sister got taking to a gent who maintained bonsai. When mum and dad went to QLD they were invited to see this private collection (around the Samford area from memory). By all reports it was breath-taking in scale and the best collection they had seen - the gent who maintained the collection also made his own pots, stands, etc... alas, private to all but a few. Kinda cool I reckon.

Anyway Matthew, thanks again. Great to see your collection.

There are many amazing private collections out there . Mine is just the tip of the ice burg and some collections are mind blowing . Just look at some of the trees on loan at the natioal collection I don't mind sharing my collection with like minded individuals . A few more pics of some shohins that I now concentrate more on these days .

this is a old root cutting and looks great in its dormant state This chinese elm will go a deep burgundy/purple colour in a few days . its the only one I have and seen go this colour . I have taken several cuttings off it over the years to propagate these characteristics . a recent root cutting

. Species is underrated but is only suitable for cool areas of Australia . Its in a early Pat Kennedy pot that I love to death .
in its spring growth , I love the colour of the leaves

Nice matthew, i'm planning to airlayer a branch off the linden in my back garden, they are a beautiful tree. I'm in South East Melbourne not far from the beach so i'll have to be careful of the watering i'm sure, but worth trying for such a great species

If my memory is right that broom elm came from you....
The other one is a root cutting i seperated a year ago

Thanks there are many collections much better then mine out there but as long as the trees are improving each year what more could you ask for .

Actually one of my Golden Zelkova airlayers is also turning purple! It does not look like a bonsai just yet, but it's a start. it would be classed as grey bark elm i think.

The broom with the red/purple foliage I thought I recognised it, I still have a couple here with the same foliage.

The one in the brown glazed pot, I was talking about this one: I am positive I have pics of that tree somewhere from 6-7 years ago

Yes sorry that was one of yours. It has thickened and barked up in the trunk quite well. I love that pot
