This was a freebee
100_8355.jpg
from a native nursery i purchased some tube stock from .I had big plans to make a slanting style free form rock and clasp the tree as is onto .Then i thought of the weight and health issues so i cut the bugger down to size .Potted into a large plastic pot then left . I noticed the big garden specimen has began to shoot so i hunted around and found this one is on its way also .It has good movement and taper
100_9035.jpg
, it was cut back by about 70 % and will be reduced a bit more depending on the new growth
100_9037.jpg
.Unfortunately a couple of branches i was planning to use have died . No real loss as idea's change as growth appears. .

I finally got around to doing a little work on a few plants . Been as slack as can be as far as bonsai go and the stock has depleted from lack of attention , but trying to make progress in other area's .I slip potted this today into a 200mm drum pot

, more than happy with the growth considering several others have become compost over the last season . All but one of the original thick stubs have been slowly removed as the new shoots have developed .

Just be careful, unless you want a cut to rot, treat them with something. This lilly Pilly is notorious for having the trunk rot. I can show you mine and lots of people are complaining about it.

Hi Neli , i haven't had an issue yet but you sure can post a pic here as a timely warning . I wouldn't like to have a rot issue ,I have steri prune so i will hit it with a coat or two , lost way too much stock over the last 18 months from neglect .

This is in need of a trim

P1080814.JPG
however it has just began to flower and with more buds appearing
P1080816.JPG
i will leave it to flower and fruit . Its coming along nicely so it can continue to grow before i take to it with the cutters .

Hi Watto , mate i like the movement from the back but the scars let it down somewhat . I never really make a hard fixed decision when developing a tree leaving a couple of options until it is well and truely developed . The base under the soil is much better in the first pic which i usually make my choice on but we can always change our minds based on further development and input from others .

That's looking great. Did you end up with any issues of rot or does it appear it could given time? I like your pot choice too.
Josh.

Looking great Alpine.
I too trimmed up my lilly pilly today.
Incredible how fast these things grow and back bud!
I reckon they are great trees to work on.
What's this with rot? Josh?

Neli mentioned having trouble with rot earlier in the post. Was wondering of alpine had any issues.

Mine for sure has lots of rotten areas. I am not sure if it is the same type but it is also dwarf. My bark is dark and looks different, but the rest is the same. I have given it a tripple treatment for rot, since march 2013 when I bought it as a large topiary...and have removed so far 3 airlayers, and did some more on the longer branches.
So here you can see some. On one of the trunk there were 2 uros filled with mushy rotten wood, and the base was also rotten.

first airlayer

second airlayer

And this is the base which has many rotten parts.

Hi Josh , its heading in the right direction and the drum pot looks the goods . No issues with rot on or in this trunk .
Hi Boics , they are a nice species to work with , better post up a topic on your tree
Hi Neli , mine are kept on the drier side and i dont allow the canopy to become too congested so as to avoid fungal or insect attack in or around the tree .
