Hi This is my first post on this site and can't help but be eager to get some thoughts on some of my plants. This is a Ficus " Midnight Beauty " that I have picked up from a nursery a few weeks ago. I dont normally do trunk chops like this but as you can see the trunk is quite unique and I think there is potential. Has anyone had any joy trunk chopping Ficus like this as I am eager to see if I will get any growth from the Midnight beauty Species of Ficus?
Thanks for looking

Mick

Hi Mick,

It should grow fine, when it first shoots I would let the shoots grow hard for a while before you prune them again. It could make a nice strangler fig style or a lead tree in a forest.

good luck!

cheers

IMO that tree is too tall and thin to grow as a single upright tree. I think that would look quite nice with quite a heavy lean to it and train some new arial roots right up the trunk, heading stright down into the soil like the famous curtain fig of FNQ. I have a couple tall trunks here i'm thinking of doing that with, would be an amazing style to recreate.
