Port Jackson Fig De Budding Question?

I recently ( 3-4 weeks ago ) defoliated a PJ FIG that has shown very strong growth since. But I have also read that at this stage I should De -budding to get " back budding" will this achieve more growth below the bud that has been removed? I have attached a pic of the PJ I want to try this method on to encourage more dense groth below the upper leaves to achieve a canopy of small leaves. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Take off all the foliage when you defoliate, so you get back budding. If you leave it as you have, it will just grow longer with out much if any back budding.

Hi Pup
That tree has been completely defoliated 4 weeks ago not leaving a leaf on the plant...... I was wondering do I de budd the new growth to get Back budding below the new growth? As you can see all the leaves are very new and still green stems?

You need to remove all leaves and the terminal growing tips at the same time..

As Craig has said, remove all leaves and terminal growth, or you will end up with what you have now, just terminal end regrowth.
With very little if any back budding.
