Hi Sahara,
Looking nice and healthy, at this time of year give it lots of food, lots and lots of water and let it grow a bit wild.
In late January give it a serious cut back (all the new growth back to two leaves and remove branches you do not want)
When it drops its leaves before winter you should have a nice simple structure ready for the flowers in spring.
With wisterias you should take the good with the bad.......beautiful in spring but a bit of an out of control mess through summer.

Hi sahara, Lovely trunk on this one and nice to see its doing well

As gerard mentioned, you need to sort out the branching before long. you have a great tangle there by the look of it.
I would completely remove the crossing ones and the ones going in the wrong direction first. then have a look at the remainder.
The idea with wisteria, is to develop branches that can be platforms for masses of flowers to hang from. The rest of the time its is just let it grow and do its thing.

With mine I let the branches extend a little, then cut back to a few leaves and let it grow again.
You can cut back hard and they will shoot from bare wood readily, so do not be afraid to cut back hard to shape the tree.

Lots of water and fert too.

Ken

Good potential Sahara. Keep your leaves trimmed back to three sets of leaves during the growing season. I alternate, some i leave two on and some i leave three on. Also do not repot every season, lots of food and water (as Ken said)I would love to see a picture in flower.

Hey Sahara,

Love your Wisteria, any chance of a close up of the lower trunk. It looks to me like Wisteria floribunda 'Nishiki', a stunning variety I have wanted for many years, where did you get it?

I am going to go against the rest here, being a variegate it is better to let it grow a bit more than others, while it is a strong variety they still need a bit more care than the rest. Plenty of water & food will thump the growth on it double time.

Look forward to watching its progress.

Matt

Hi Sahara, lovely wisteria and I look forward to seeing the pics of the base!
Next season would you consider air-layering the trunk underneath the branches to make it a sort of clump type of style?
Just curious, not suggesting that it needs it!...to me it looks like there may be some taper issues in the lower trunk?
Anyway, even if that is the case, I am sure it doesn't matter as it looks great!
Cheers, Dario. :tu2:

ok few pics of the base, and yes if anyone thinking it does look like a womans figure and breasts imo.. before anyone gets it out there LMAO.

sp this is a driect link to 5 more pics of the base the reason for the satkes is becasue she fell over and needs to be repotted so they were just balancing her.. she lost quite abit of foliage when we had the bad storms and rains and most f it fell off. confused as to why but she was very water logged, as i said im still a newb and still learning :)

With all those snakes rising from her head it has to be Medusa.

Some of the photos show major reverse taper, others not so much, try & find the 'front' that shows the least taper issue & work from there. Be aware that they do not heal scars from branch removal and will rot out very easily from those wounds(as a few on the forum can attest to, rot that is). It cannot be avoided but can be used in your favor if its considered as part of the final design, it is also best to leave any major pruning until just after flowering.

With regards falling over & losing alot of foliage, is it possible to plant it in the ground till late winter. It is very top heavy with all that growth on, the weight of foliage alone can drag quite substantial branches down over a season. Being in the ground will also allow it to regain some strength lost due to the storm damage (it should be starting to push new buds by now).

I was looking at the pics again & its hard to tell, is the variegation golden or white? I was doing some more research recently & there are 2 types of variegate 'Hagoromo Nishiki' (golden) & 'Nishiki' (white). There are several other accepted names for both but these are the most usual.

I look forward to watching this beauty progress over the coming years & if you ever decide to move it on I am putting in dibs now :tu:

Its good to see her raising her lovely head again...

I saw a few trees today that remind me of her current shape, Eucalypts, not that species matter. I will try & do a sketch for you in the next few days.
