Pot for Crepe Myrtle

Any ideas for a pot for a Crepe Myrtle , the tree is approx 400mm high,350mm overall branches and approx 25mm dia at the base, it is a roundish looking tree, so it has been suggested that a round or oval pot would be suitable, I was thinking along the lines of a greenish round pot to complement the flowers when in bloom,but may be barking up the wrong tree.
As this is my first post go easy on me as I don`t even know I am in the right discussion area.

My first thought would be going for a glazed cream pot.

I agree - glazed, cream and oval. Thanks for posting your pic of the flowers, I have a crepe myrtle bonsai which hasn't flowered yet, so it gives me something to look forward to.

I think a cream pot will be too close to the trunk color when they shed their skin,it's a pale color usually, thats why i ask if Paul knows the flowers color. If they are a purple flower, a lightish colored glazed green pot could work ,

How old is it, if you don't trim it from now on , in January you should get flowers

Yes it is the purple coloured one and it has flowered last year , I think it is about 5 years old,thanks for the replies guys, it has given me something to work on,

Remembering that the tree is in flower for a short time, and unless you have two pots one for flowering time and one for none flowering. You should the pot that suits the tree as it is most of the time.

The bark is exfoliating so that needs consideration also. The colours that suit the flower, Dark green, light green, celadon,yellowish white, pale brown.

As I said it exfoliates the bark which leaves a nice colour which can vary from a pinkish to light grey. So the colour of pot there, would be soft grey both in glazed or unglazed.

The tree from what I see is a feminine, so the pot needs to be the same as a strong masculine pot will overpower the tree.
So a shallow to medium oval or irregular oval.

I agree. The pot should be a glazed light green shallow oval pot about 250/300mm. Good luck with it Paul.

Hello Paul, unless your tree has multiple choices of viewing angles, a round pot would not be the way to go, remembering half to 2/3rds the height is the usual recommended measurements.

The reason that I said to put your Crepe Myrtle into a light green oval bonsai pot is because of the purple flowers. It will look lovely and the shape will certainly suit the shape of your tree for now and a long way to come. Good luck with choosing the pot.
