Hi has anyone ever screwed a PJ FIG to a plank of wood to achieve a solid root spread ( base ) as I heard this is a great way of achieving Nebari but I dont want to kill some PJ I have collected.

No reason why it would not work, just do not know about the need to be so definitive
Spread the small roots out before they Lignify and you will get the same result I think

Yes and it's a great way to get a good root spread.
Here is one I started a couple of weeks ago.
I'll let you know how the Tupperware goes in a couple of months.

Thanks Guys I might give it a shot My Pj stump is like yours Steve that I colected from inbetween rocks therefore not being able to get any roots. Will stainless screws do Iam just worried about killing the tree as one of the ones i have will be a cracker if i can develop roots on it?

I used brass screws Mick but stainless would be equally as good if not better.

This one has had the base split as per the [Tutorial] How to Develop Dynamic Figs Quickly. I recommend you read that thread if you haven't already.

I've got pictures here 'somewhere' of more advanced examples. I'll post them if and when I find them.

I'm curious, how did you attach the base to the circle after the base was flared??

Same as the other one. Just a longer brass screw.

This is a great idea, im sick of my missus hoarding tuppaware lol

I might try the same this weekend with some moreton bay & port jackson hard wood cuttings i took, ill post some pics.

so a few months on?? imthinking of doing this type of thing to cuttings in october so am wondering how it all went.....

Back when Moses was still a stone mason's apprentice (60s and 70s) we used to plant figs, maples and other species on top of a large flat tile,then over pot them or plant them out, to achieve the same results. The screw didn't seem necessary. It only takes a couple of growing seasons to get some great Nebari. The best results are achieved with Trident Maple and the Natal Fig, Ficus Natalensis which both have vigorous root systems.

The tile method is something I was told about too.
