Acacia howittii

Hi people,

I have just acquired a very young howittii, and wondered how I should treat it here in the hot, hot tropics. It is currently under shadecloth, and getting plenty of water. The soil it is in is what came with it, but I keep getting tiny mushrooms (or toadstools) growing in the soil, and wondered if I should repot it into something like a diatomite-soil mix. I have had it about 3 months I guess.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Glenda

Hi Glenda, the one thing i do know is they must be repotted annually in my climate.(Central Victoria) I left mine thinking the large pot would carry it but it started to suffer. I repotted and it is now backbudding everywhere. I reckon in your climate it would put on roots quickly so repotting would be a must.

Hi Glenda
sorry to be a bit slow on the uptake here :( .
How is your A howittii doing way up north? I've been told by quite a few people in NE NSW that it just doesn't grow well there - dying in a year of two of getting one. They thought it might be a combination of the heat and humidity. It is native to south Gippsland, Victoria.
