Hi,
This is my first go at a forrest / group style. I hope they all make it as I had to cut away a fair chunk of the root system on them all.
Comments please people.
Merry Christmas.
Steve

Hi Steve , working on tridents in full leaf has its risks even for the experienced . I work young seedling with care but i would be very cautious working potted plants like these . Major Root work now would be not on my agenda ., winter dormancy would be the time to major root prune any deciduous tree .After care is a priority , a shaded cool area and i would say remove 50% of the leaves . Mind you i kill more tree's than most experimenting with them , pushing the boundaries , not tempting fate .Good luck with them .
Cheers Alpineart

I too would not be doing much heavy root pruning of maples in full leaf during summer without removing more leaves as Alpine has said. Also watch your watering during your aftercare. Just a quick note on your design.... without going into a major lesson, generally the tallest tree should be the one with the thickest trunk, gradually getting shorter as the trunks get thinner. The trees on the outside with the branches wired vertically are too tall in relation to the #1 tree. There are many references out there for correct positioning of trees in relation to your design be it 3,5,7,9,11 trees etc. Always use an odd number of trees rather than even.... it looks more natural.
