I believe it's know as a 'corky bark' maple. Does anyone know where these can be bought in and around Melbourne?

Not that it is of any help to you in Melbourne, I noticed one in a friend's garden just near home yesterday.

I am going to take cuttings, and also try and convince her to let me air layer.

I'll let you know if I get any results...in a year or so???

The ones I have seen don't have very corky bark at all. There is a beautiful standard one in the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney. It is located on the Spring Walk if anybody is interested.

Ooops. Sorry. I was thinking Wisteria 'Arakawa' - Corky Bark Wisteria. Not Acer palmatum. Please disregard my earlier comment.

This is an old thread!

I found this variety at Yamina rare plants years ago. It was grafted, as expected, but for the life of me I could not strike it! Air layers wouldn't take either. It's currently growing in the ground until I can find a way. Any tips?

Thanks Steve, that sounds like a deal to me! My only issue at this time is getting a spare moment to do this as my wife gave birth to our second child just yesterday! But if you let me know when would be best and exactly what you require, I'll do my best to organise something.

Cheers,
Todd

Teejay, I have a grafted Arakawa in my garden and the plan is to airlayer everything off it over the next few years. If I am successful, I'll be sure to let you know.

Cheers,
Mojo
