[ID] what is it ?

Hi total novice here, and would appreciate any assistance in identifying this stump. I salvaged it from the green waste bin and after 8 months of care to get it to this stage I am wondering it is worth further effort. The leaves look small, though with this little growth in 8 months I am wondering if I will see any decent growth in my lifetime.
Anyone got any idea what this is, as it was growing in an area that was cleared on a semi annual basis I assumed it was some sort of rampant weed tree, of the celtis or privet ilk, though it has been the slowest grower of every plant I own.
Any suggestions?
Cheers
Elmo

I'm gonna hazard a guess with Cotoneaster. I may be wrong though. Got any close-ups of the leaves?

Thanks for all the suggestions.
From looking at photos online I am thinking it might be a Robinia pseudoacacia, for the leaf shape at anyrate.
This is a closer pic of the leaves, not fantastic, but it's pouring here so not able to get another shot right now.

It really is a cut stump, but it is one of the first things I collected, I might need to get the dremel and try some carving.
Cheers
