I thought i'd start a quick new topic to this, rather than have it hidden in my previous posting of my first trident maple.
Several members suggested I could air layer my trident... however I've had a look through the Wiki and can see how to air layer, but am still not sure of the optimal times to air layer. I do know the notion to set them on Melbourne Cup and cut them on Australia Day... If so, have i left my run too late people?

Are we going to get any more summer - i need a bl#@dy jumper in Toowoomba today!

Crystal balls anyone?? KC have i not looked hard enough in the Wiki to find this info - please set me stright if so

If you get it on now you may be able to sever before winter. I did one before Christmas and it took 6 weeks which was quicker than I thought. It was on a stock tree that I was going to chop so I thought I would save the top instead of binning it.

Hi Stewart , i did a couple of 40-50mm trunks in late January early February last year and i was surprised to have them produce good roots by Winter . It cant hurt to try ,if they dont produce roots it may be because it has bridged the ring bark . You can always re apply it during Winter .

In SE Q you shodu have no dramas doing one now on a maple tho
