As was suggested last week for our sunday Drop in Sessions, That one of us post a tree or 2 for discussion

As I do not know how i will get on in the morning and being Easter Sunday, I will post my 2 tonight.

first up is a Melaleauca Decussata, Crossed Leaf Honey Myrtle, that I purchased last year when we at Bonsai Talk decided to get some native and develop them so we can start to document some different species and what we find about them

This tree is in a 6" pot and the trunk is less than an inch dia so is still young. I have only done a few trimmings so i can have a look at it and start to learn its habits, I have another one that I will put in the ground this winter.

They have purple flowers and the foliage is very small so should look really nice once styled.

If anyone has some suggestions, re the tree inside then now is the time to come forth.

If any one has seen any done then please let us know on this thread and post pictures if you can

G,day Ken this is the spieces that intruiged the Koreshoff's. Funny thing is they saw it in Disneyland.
This tree as you say is small and unless you want a Shohin I suggest the ground so it gains some meat.
They shoot back of old wood but like always I do not go past green till it does. Then shorten a bit more.
Try and get some movement in that straight part up the trunk so it compliments the lower part just be careful they do crack if you are not careful. If you do not break it just move it back into postion it will shoot from there. Good luck Pup

Yeah Quite uninspiring specimin as yet but maybe might be worthwhile

I think they will make a ripper of a tree for Bonsai so was hoping that some others here had seen some, but maybe a first.

If you have access to Vita and Dorothy's book on natives you will find it on page 47 colour plate 5. This is the book I used when I started with natives.
I have and still do find it invaluable. They have tried and tested, then past on what they have found works with our natives.
Which I think it is the only way to go.
Two or three years is not proof but you can as I have done pass on what I have tried if it is working. As Grant and I have done in our work with Callitris. Pup
