The WCBG Annual Show 2009

Hello all,

In an earlier thread I wrote that I would post some pics of the Weston Creek Bonsai Group's annual show, during which Leigh held his Hinoki demo, discussed earlier. Well, here are said photos. I thought it would be worthwhile putting them up here, as the WCBG did quite a remarkable job. There are only 26 members, with quite a few not exhibiting anything, so the size and standard of this show are a tour de force, I think. It just goes to show ;) what a determined bonsai group can do, regardless of size.

Details of Pat's pots will be shown under "Australian Potters". Here are two views of his stand at the show.

Hi Lisa thank you for these. As you say it shows what a small but enthusiastic group can do. All tree's were presented well on stands or at least not sitting on the table top. With an accent.
I know small clubs battle for funds and such, That is why we have a show every 18 months or so. It helps alay the cost of running the club allows them to purchase equipment, such as back drops and bring visiting tutors.
Again congratulations to the committee on the show. It is mouth watering to see those PK pots, also some of the stock. Again thank you Lisa :) Pup

Some close-ups.
First, 3 Pyracantha: a yamadori from a hill near Canberra, a clump inspired by a penjing seen in China, and a literati.

Thanks Lisa!
What a beautifully presented show with quality bonsai. My congratulations to all members of the Weston Creek Bonsai Group for such a great looking show. I'm sorry I wasn't there to see it in person.
Regards,
Steven

Thank you for that nice reply, Pup.
This year, the number of visitors was down on previous years, but we still managed to break even. This is partly due to the generosity of the 3 demonstrators who didn't ask for a penny and Pat's donation of a beautiful pot as a raffle prize.
Leigh always supplies one or two of his prize trees to help the show along.
Our props have been bought over a number of years. Sometimes we have bad luck, like when our signs get stolen, or removed by a council that doesn't like seeing them in certain places. The WCBG started in the '80s some time, I think, as a group of friends who learned bonsai together. In '95, the club hosted one of the first AABC Seminars. Now it is still a group of friends doing bonsai together - but they have learned a LOT since those early days! I joined in '97, after 2 years of battling solo in bonsai and getting nowhere. The help and friendship I got set me up in the best and nicest possible way.

Lisa

Thank you too, Steven, for those kind words. Your message arrived while I was busy uploading the last pics.
