She was my first - PJ ficus

Our relationship started as a $2 tube stock from a local markets in 1996. She was placed in an oversized bonsai pot and had nothing but water and sun until 2011. Many other trees came and died but she survived. My bonsai interest wained from 1998 until 2011 due to children and work commitments. A visit to Bonsai south mid 2011 suddenly reinvigourated my interest. My old PJ fig was subsequently removed from her pot, trimmed and root pruned and placed in a top quality soil mix. I am under no illusion that this tree is anything spectacular, but being my first tree I would like to give her the best chance possible. Now the mother to twenty of my beautiful cuttings I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how best to style her. The tree has an ugly large rap around root which I am to fearful to remove and not sure that it needs to be removed as she will never be show quality. Any advice or opinions are welcome.

God damn..!! She's ugly lol,..but she was your first
The last pic to me is heading the right way as is. Put her in a attractive pot and she will be prettier at least, just joking and welcome back to this great past time
Cheers,

I was doing so well until I read this:

oh mate, I lost it. Bravo! I'm still giggling. She might not be the prettiest but you always have a soft spot for your first, I think the new front is the go too. Wouldn't mind myself a ficus or two actually...

Hi Steve W,
Regarding the look of your ficus- you could say that the fig is a buddhist monk with his leg crossed in meditation. It is quite common for bonsai to be given character profiles and names. You should look at it this way instead of with regret ; as an opportunity.
Cheers fellow fig owner,
