Hi All,

For something different than the small leaf, i also got a Ficus Salicifolia.

This one is planted the same as the others and is going well.

My concern with this one is that it just looks rather tall and skinny.

What would be the best way to get a bit of thickness and taper going? A harsh chop about half way up?

Cheers
Adan

Hi Adan,

I would not chop it now - I would grow it unrestrained to thicken for and then when the trunk is thick and solid chop it low and seal with cut putty. This type of fig re-sprouts very well, an excellent species to work with.

Nice too :-)

Like the other small ones of yours too, i woud let them grow mad to ge the lower trunks developing some girth. Then you can chop the tops for taper .

Thanks for the input guys, i guess i will just keep the DL and water up to this one and see how quick it can grow.

BTW, is the species name of the willow leaf - ficus salicifolia?

The botanical name is Ficus salicaria C.C. Berg but you will find that most people know it by Ficus salicifolia.

Any ideas on what i should do with this would be great. Will probably just let it keep growing to thicken up.

I would probably cut back to the first branch, and then repot with trunk at an angle to the soil so it has movement low down.

Much slower growth too.

Probably looking back at it now, i could have planted it on a bit more of an angle...
