G,day Gals and Guys. Ladies before gents always!!.

I have a nice problem, I was given a very nice Shohin pot brought from Japan. However (there it is again ) it is a very bright canary yellow glaze.
Now I know that the rules ( guidelines ) change with Shohin and Mame, I would however like to tone it down some if I am going to use it.
I know most Potters do not like giving away there secrets BUT pretty please. Is there some way of toning down or to put it another way ageing it.

Surely you have a neat little cotoneaster or something lying around you could put in it.

Hi Pup. If the glaze is crazed, you can heat it an oven then take it out and wipe all over with black ink. The ink will show up in the cracks and also slightly tone down the colour. Try it first in a spot where it won't be seen. If you know someone with a kiln, you could get it bisqued again. It will change the colour but unless you know what the glaze is, you won't know what the result will be. If all else fails, paint it.

No cotoneaster but I have a Pyracantha not sure of the colour though. Also at the moment the leaves are big. I will next time I am near a Nursery go and have look for one. Thanks it is still bright though.

Penny the glaze is not crazed and the pot is some sort of white clay!

You could reglaze it with a low fire crawl of a contrasting color. I didn't like the red on this one and I put a black lava over it and fired it to ^04

There is a small pitcher at Pottery club from a visiting artist that has a crawl glaze over a bright orange. It looks amazing. I never thought I would be intrested in glazes sheesh there is so much to learn

Another example, the lava is covering a matte clear that turned milky white

That article explains a process of using glass etch to take the sheen off a glaze. It may also help the aging process speed up a little.....
