Hi all

Check out the weirdest bug i have ever seen i found it on my favorite juniper clinging to a branch with its 2 long front arms, it also has a long mouth that is was using to munch the barkand 4 back legs, i tried flicking him into a pot with a brush but then reailised he had those 2 huge arms wrapped right round the branch and had to pry him off. I inspected the branch and folage and noticed the munch marks on the bark.then today a found another one on the same tree only this one was way smaller about the size of a rice crispy the one in the pic was the size of my thumb nail. any one know what it is.

Your photo is not really very clear Paul but the colour and the body shape looks like some sort of weevil but I can't see the head and I have not seen any with such big front legs either???
Some weevils do eat bark. I think Steven?? posted about some eating one of his casuarinas??

Yep, that is definitely the weird bonsai eating bug.
The normal size one is as big as a motor bike with go go gadget weird legs, they take bites the size of football''s out of real sized trees. :o :palm:

I don't think. It's a weevil after googling them . The shape of the head. Can be clearly seen on the left . I should have tried to get a better picture . It's really bugging me what it is !

Thanks guys for the help. just confirmed that is was an elephant weevil . Mad looking critter . And if a had not spotted him as soon as I did I don't think there would have been much bark left on my juni.

Thanks Glenda.
I was hoping someone would do some graphics. How about the "Three Wise Weevils" please? I would love to see what you do with that.
Penny.
