I took some pics of this tree today with the intention of taking some every few days as it progresses thru colour to leaf fall. When I transfered them to my pc I found one from when I first got it & overpotted from the 15cm one it was in. It was pinched pruned during 2010/11, with a major pruning for shape at the end of winter. Growth over spring 2011 was good with growth being pinched back twice by time of the next pic. It was defoliated & tip pruned in early january and has filled out nicely. It is currently 33cm high, 32cm wide & 22cm deep. Comments & critique always welcome.

tree it look's like it is coming along very nicely, but the pot could do with a bit of a weed as there hooking in aswell, hey but that's only my opinion will be good to see it's progress over the next few year's

Thanks Hacker, Healthy weeds, healthy tree? I weeded in december but it doesnt take long for the dread Oxalis to regrow, they can stay till spring when its due for a repot. The plan is to keep it small and work on ramification, while it is nice in flower my main aim will be a fine winter silohoutte.

Hi Matt, can you tell us some more about your plans for this tree? what style you are aiming for? your visions for this tree? (have you got any photos of it defoliated?) etc...

Have you got any sketches? etc of your vision of the finished tree?

At the moment its a 5 trunk raft, I tend to just follow its lead so it could end up being changed come spring repot, tho I do like the way it has filled out so most likely just a good haircut & a more concerted effort next season to stay on top of tip pruning etc. I will get a pic once its leafless as I don't have any from the last defoliation. Sorry no drawings or vision for a finished tree... Whats a finished tree look like? I dont have any & doubt I ever will.

Don't be like that Hacker - those are not weeds, they are insulation accent plants to keep the soil mix cool!

I am half tempted to spin it 180, remove the offensive trunk behind the main one & regrow from a basal bud along the back edge of the rafted trunk. It would also remove the nasty backwards lean of the main trunks

I like your plan Matt ! as is it doesn't do a lot for my eyes ...can you do a virt of the changes before you do it ?

Just wondering if you did this from a cutting or is it still a grafted stock like found in nurserys, i know silly question but at the moment im trying to strike some pyrus usseriensis (manchurian pear) and wonder how yours was done.
