Carving finishing touches

Hey guys I was wondering after seeing carved trees with hollows the owner has used black ink I was wondering what type Of ink is this n where can I find some also I have seen Pplz using wood stain on their carving n where can I find this and what brand isn't toxic to trees I don't want to kill my tree

Indian ink is what is used
it can be mixed with Lime sulphur to preserve at the same time

Hi Treecollecter , some people use indian ink added to lime sulphur as they dont like the white bleached look , others hit/burn it gently with a blow torch , cover the foliage first with a damp cloth . I use stri-prune its a bitimen based wound sealer brushed on wipe off to desired finish , dont get it right up to the bark or it will burn the cambium layer . Hope this helps .

Peter Adams recommends a water based paint (very small amounts) to be used after the use of lime sulphur, just to give the shadow effect.
So far thats three different methods suggested for you to use, the choice is yours. I think all are effective it depends on personal preference.
