Hi All

Here are some photo's of a Ginkgo that I have had for about 25+ year's it's been in the same pot for most of that time & has it's soil changed mayb twice it stand's about a metre high & has had the clip & grow method used on it, But am thinking of planting it in a grow box & also given it a real good hard cut back this year, or mayb try an air layer on some of the thicker trunk's up high, has anyone tried air layering a ginkgo before :?:

G'day The Hacker, I tried to set a layer on a large Ginkgo tree of mine this growing season and it failed. I did all of the right things but the whole area died back.

Thank's Siddhar,

Well I guess it will be getting the chop, no good wasting time trying to air layer it then

Hacker ( Chris )
Its a nice trunk but ginkgo is not a variety of tree I like, except for a garden specimen.
I know the japanese grow them as bonsai only for sentimental reasons.

Hi Brian,

well you know I'm very a sentimental bloke :shake: :shake: so I guess that's the reason that I've keep it for so long

Hey Hacker, Nice ginkgo, real nice ginkgo once you do a bit of work.

Most of the japanese ginkgo bonsai are from air layers, not sure why Siddhar's failed & cant help with a good method to try as I have never come across material worth spending the time on.

I am glad you posted this one Hacker,
We dont see many ginkgo's in Australia and because the grow fairly slowly we do not often see material like this.
With your renewed enthusiasm I cannot wait to see where you go with this one.

Yes, its nice to see another ginkgo posted. I've got a young ginkgo I'm working on myself. Will be a while before I have it close to this but great for inspiration.

Keep us updated on its progress.
