So I found this sitting tucked away at a local nursery down here in Canberra. I thought originally it was a pine, then a juniper, then I gave up. But as it was only $20 I couldnt complain
Any help would be appreciated. I had to send the photos to my email from my phone, so I dont know what the quality will be like.

SOLVED-dwarf alberta spruce.

Looks like Cedrus deodar or some type of cedar.
The photo is a bit blurred, maybe a Larch?

Looks like a spruce of some kind. Not sure what kind. Anyway I think it will be a fun project, lots of pruning and wiring! Look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Hi Sean Mitchell1, i would say its a Picea glauca Conica - Dwarf Alberta Spruce -Albertainia Concical used a Christmas tree's sold by Supermarkets over the last 10years . They make good bonsai however they don't take kindly to dry soil .Require watering every day or die back is a curse .An open free draining mix kept moist at all times .Growth is mainly on the ends of the branches and can be difficult to get them to back bud .

Thanks for the help, It's in a good draining mix so hopefully that will help. I will enjoy working on it and I'll try to keep a progression thread on this one.

they struggle in sydney I think so will enjoy seeing this on develop

I made a visit to another nursery today and saw a very similar tree which was a conifer, so I'm going with that.

For Trent, the coca cola can was grafted, but should be available from your local shopping centre.

So after attending a wonderful workshop with Mick Balzary and the Weston Creek Bonsai Society, we decided that my tree is indeed a dwarf alberta spruce.
It also got some styling tips and is now sporting a new haircut. Thanks to all who helped and I'll start a progression thread soonish.
