here is one of my first and fav bonsai's i have created. its not what you would call a text book bonsai and probably has some faults (weird root that looks like someones knee havent decided what to do about it yet as i kind of like the character of it) at the moment i do not want to be a text book bonsai artist, i want to create my own ideas and impressions as im only new to bonsai and by no means an expert as my name suggests (grasshopper) but i would appreciate any tips, help, advice anyone has to offer. hope at least some of you like it, i will keep updating pics of it as i go :-)

Hi grasshopper,

I wouldn't worry too much about the root problem you think you have. In my experience you can always lift the bonsai higher in the pot and make the root a feature. As it is you have a nice starter there and it should become a nice ornamental when it flowers and fruits.

Good luck,

thanx for the input both of you but im still left un-decided on wether to keep it and use it as a feature, or wether to cut it off :? im going to need more peoples opinion before i do anything. like i said i kind of like the character of it, but if it will create any serious health problems for the tree then ill cut it off... :? its not ment to be any type of specific formal style or anything it more of a ornamental creation with the natural twisting trunk (i didnt wire it that way ) thanks for the link craig very informal and i learned alot from it if i do decide to cut the root :)
