Very nice to see trees from this early era. I would say its a pity we did not know more about good photography of our trees then.
However it is still good to see them.
Thank you for showing them. Hacker.
Cheers Pup

Good find Hacker. I remember when we visited Joe, it was the aabc convention in Canberra around 1989- 90. Joe was a pioneer with his bending and trunk cutting techniques. This was the first time I had seen him slice through 80 % of a large trunk with a Japanese razor saw and remove a big wedge of timber then press it together with a copper wire tourniquet.
Its a bit hard for me to put into words the way he bent large trunks like that without posting step by step photos. . I hope you understand the technique that I'm talking about.
Lovely trees and thans for posting, I particularly like the semi cascade on the bench
the bending process sounds like what I did to and Azalea I needed to bend a few years ago.

Thanks Mr Hacker for posting these historic photos.
It allowed me to establish, with reasonable confidence, that an Atlantic Cedar Cascade I have is clearly two of Joe's trees now planted as one.
(The bend in that trunk is unique!)
Needless to say, with that provenance, this trees worth is now greater if not its value!
It shall be re-wired, styled, re-potted in August and I will post an updated photo then.

Hi The Hacker , there is some very impressive Cedars there . These would have been a real eye opener way back then . I see Merv Hughes must have retired .
