Hi John,

Thats a really lovely, wild looking Juniper and very reminiscent of the Callitris i saw when travelling out near Broken Hill about 18 months ago..

It really captures the movement and twisting feeling of those trees.

Congradulations to both of you,

Grant

Looking good John :tu:

Thanks for sharing

I reckon you could lower the top a little to round off the shape and increase the age a bit. You could bend the upper branching down rather than chop off. Perhaps a little busy on the middle right also.

I like what you have done with this tree since then.

The one tree i do not look forward to re wiring each year is Procumbins, :x they are prickly and time consuming and only look good for a short time :palm: :palm:

Hi John Henry ,I haven't come across a Blawws in my travels . I certainly like the look of this Bonsai .As Grant said it looks like a natural aged Australian Pine . Those Procumbins are a tad bit prickly to work with but they make for a nice Cascade or Semi cascade, gloves dont help on these thats for sure .

Cheers Alpine

Hi Alpine, Blawws Jumipers if you can find them are very similar to Shimpaku ,when cut back juvenile growth looks the same as Procumbins worth looking out for.

Hi John and Alpine, working on Procumbins usually gives me an allergic rash, however, after testing cotton gloves etc, I've found the thin disposable rubber gloves (Ansell) work a treat - no rash, no sappy fingers, and actually give you more purchase when pinching out.

ps John, I do like the semi-cascade, the crown esp is developing well :tu:

Hi all,

Blaauws juniper used to be very commomn until the nurserymen found they were not easy to sell. The shape of the tree in the ground and its grey color was not very interesting but for bonsai they were a terrific alternative to Shimpaku in the early days when Shimpaku were not as available. Shimpaku was imported around 1979.

Blaauws grow a lot quicker and thickens easilly. You may still get them in the Dandenongs in Victoria.
