Stolen 17 Year Old Olive

Hey guys. Just to let you know that when I was in Japan, one of my wild olives was stolen. It was out the back at work in Kellyville/Sydney. The thief/s definitely knew what they were looking for. I have posted a few pics although please note that it is now in an asian themed pot. The pot is yellow with asian writing on one side and an etched landscape on the other.
The tree (since this photo) has had a fair put of lime sulfur painted onto the carved areas and there is not much foliage on the tree. The large branch you see at the the bottom no longer exists. If anyone should come across this please know it's stolen and I would appreciate a PM or call me on 0412588986.

Thanks guys

John

PS At least in Japan they respect other people's propery and theft is seen as distasteful.

Its true. In Japan they have beautiful trees sitting in the street. If it was Australia they would be gone. What does that say about our country. Shameful :shake: Sorry to hear Jester.

Sorry to hear about your olive getting pinched, hope you recover it with minimal to no damage.

And if you find out who it is perform a trunk chop on them using a katana. And take pics.

It amazes me how people could think they would get away with stealing other people's Bonsai Trees, surely there would be characteristics of the tree that you could just not hide! somebody is bound to recognize that tree somewhere, Where’s the satisfaction in keeping a stolen bonsai tree???? I mean are people these days so disillusioned by wanting EVERYTHING that it doesn’t bring guilt every time they look at their stolen tree?? Seriously when it’s time to re-pot, re wire & style the tree and if the thief doesn’t feel any guilt, remorse for what they’ve done then it would be a sure sign of delusional greediness & insanity, I’m not very superstitious but I hope that if anything Karma catches the culprit. The good news is now you’ve got some space for a new tree!!!! all the best Jester.

Hi Jester,

I am sorry to hear that. I have several of mine stolen a few years back too: twice. I have never recovered any of mine yet. And I have not thrown away the police reports either.

We should a file a report with the police regardless. They will not have the resource to do anything. But we never know, we may run into one of these trees... later on.

Best regards.

That is a real bugger. There are some real low lifes around. Friend of our had 3 large hanging basket and a couple of pot plants stolen of there front porch. Several weeks later they called the police to say they saw the plants sitting on the front varandah of a house just up the street. Police went to investigate and the guy said they were his. Police asked if our friends could prove the plants were theirs. Our friends said "sure can". She dug down in the dirt of one of the hanging baskets and pulled out her spare house key. The cops arrested the guy on the spot. They then found he'd been knocking off stuff from other houses around the area as well.
Maybe people could mark the inside of pots as ID of their bonsai's (your name and a number). I know this is only any good if they are recovered, but makes proof of ID easier. It sux when you have to think like this, but it's the way society is going.
Do people insure their trees, can you insure your trees???????

This sort of stuff leaves a really bad taste in your mouth. Here in Sydney we are about to see one of our best " if not the best " Bonsai and pre Bonsai nursery close its doors to the public due to theives distracting the owner while there mates pinch trees and load them in there cars. Or offer stupid prices for amazing trees and when they are told they cant let them go at that ridiculous price main branches are snapped of in spite. Shame on these people Bonsai is a art and a beautifull hobby if you are not prepared to pay the price someone is asking for there tree ........ Respectfully walk away and by no means STEAL IT!
Karma will catch up with these low lives .....Sorry to here about your Olive.

Regards Mick

So right, definitely not in the spirit of bonsai keeping.

So glad I have moved out of the Sydney area, Just over the mindless crimes, both towards people, and possessions. Moved down to Batehaven 6 months ago, and so far there doesn't seem to be much serious crime (not to say it doesn't happen, but in small communities after a short time everyone gets to know everyone). So sorry to hear you have lost your Olive Bonsai, the stupidity of such a theft is so selfish and greed motivated, I really hope you get it back undamaged. If these people spent as much time actually learning how to make these Pots of Art, they could potentially make far more money legally, and beauty of course, in making their own, than they ever would by stealing other peoples hard work, and putting themselves in the long dark path of crime, but I guess genetic intelligence is one of the motivating forces behind all this!.
