Another of my little experiments with natives. I purchased this in October 2010 as a seedling of about 2yrs old, the seed remnant had withered away & it still carried its first leaf as well as a pair from the current season. I repotted into a little japanese pot of about the same size as its nursery one. A couple of weeks after repotting it was knocked & the trunk stood at its current angle instead of upright as potted. As it was still holding onto the soil I decided to leave it be, starting at such an angle it will eventually grow a nice curve into the trunk (why cant everything have movement right from the get go?) It has resided on my bench with little attention ever since, until sunday just gone when it was shown to me by anothers eyes. Today I decided to have a look at the roots, a few feeders close in and a big fleshy 'taproot' that I shortened. Into one of my own pots that I think complements it better. Placement was something I am still not sure about, should the flow of tree follow the pot or should it be reversed?

I got sick of looking at & taking care of 3 pots so I combined them, the 5 yr old is joined by a 2 & 1yr old.

I've just about in the process of moving my nursery to elsewhere on the property and have a few different Cycad species and have been thinking the last few days of potting them at different angles each repot to see if I could get an interesting trunk line. May be a very long term project though.

Thanks Dan, with cycads it really is a time & patience thing but go for it, as you can see with the oldest of these it is starting to turn the crown up, in another 5-10yrs it should start becoming a noticable bend. The roots can be worked like any other species but they wont need much attention or often, I only removed excess soil in this repot, keeping the roots of all intact.

I'd like to see an object for size reference though?
