Collected this benji 18mths ago. It was growing on the side of a large Paperbark. When it was collected, it was cut back to a basic stump and left. yesterday, I was bored, so I pulled it out and did some wiring. ( Before anyone else says it. Yes it is the wrong time of year to be doing this, but, I live in the tropics, where it seldom goes below 10 degree C and the day time temps are in the mid 20's and did I mention I was bored).
Ficus benjimina- height 45cm, width 60cm, depth 50cm, trunk 25cm wide. chris

Welcome to the dark side 2:1 (and its not sumo) About time you saw the light !!! Best work i have seen you produce to date. Easy when you put on such a powerful image as this with a cracker base like that. I think you could go a little lower still with that carving. Congratulations well done.

I do feel for you Matt I may be able to grow figs in half the time you can, but i would really love to grow a nice maple or japanese white pine.
By the way, you can keep your 0 degree and below, You heard of the brass monkey, well mine would deffenately drop off.

Nice job Chris. Its going to be a great little fig. I also live in the -0 -4 bracket and got some frost burn on some of my figs the other morning. Maples are doing well though. Oh did i say..great fig.

What a great find and fantastic work. Who wouldn't want one of those. Ever get 'tired' of it let me know.

Have you thought of making it more of a Weeping Style and stepping the branches down more? The height of the trunk before the branches looks like it would handle it out of the grow pot. Just a thought based on the fact I have always wanted a good Weeping Style Bonsai and this one looks like a good one.

Anttal, as you know, I don't worry about the ratio between trunk thickness and height. I just find the best bonsai in the material in front of me. I get excited about all styles of bonsai. and thank you for your comments on this one, greatly appreciated.

Tony, as it is styled, I believe the new foliage will have a weeping effect. I also would like to see the a much wider canopy on this tree in the future.
If I am going to get rid of it you'll be the 1st to know.

Hi, What a great tree, love what you are doing with it.I suppose where you are there is very little down time in the growth much like here in Brisbane.I'll second that Tony, Ime next on the list if it goes on offer! Only one thing I would like to change, consider removing the first branch on the left to raise the canopy and I agree that the canopy needs to be a bit wider but that will happen in a couple of weeks if the temps stay up. Well done
