Last week I flew to Toronto via Abu Dabhi and then onto New Jersey. While in Abu Dabhi the airport was filled with these.

I know these aren't bonsai but imagine that trunk in 5-10 years time.
If only I could bring some trees back from New Jersey. The road sides are lined with maples, cedars, pines, and a whole range of trees just asking to be turned into bonsai.
Last time I was here it was winter and very boring to look at, now in full leaf the bush is lush and green. Right out side our motel was a couple of these

It really is an amazing world we live in.

I used to live in Qatar, which is near Abu Dabhi. The whole time I was there I never saw any lush vegetation; IT WAS ALL DESERT. It's one of the main reasons I love bonsai, 4 years of vegetation deprivation and bonsai is my personalized cure. Cool to see the squirrels but I'd bet anything they were once somebody's pets that they just let go.

I knew of a guy who specialised in these multi plaitted figs here in aus. His name was greg viney and he owns a nursery up in kundabung near Kempsey on the mid north coast of nsw. If you really want one I am sure he would still have them available. You could always try one yourself. I used to give them a go when I was a teeneager working in nurseries.

Cheers

Yeah there is a whole lot of sand out there. I couldn't see past the airport because of the dust. Quite amazing really.
Just out of interest did you fish over there at all. The coast looked awesome for fishing.

Yeah mate, my dad took me fishing at his own "hotspot" which I found hilarious. He caught some fish but no big mentions, I actually got stung by a jellyfish out there once and had to get medical attention (we had no idea what it was, and I was 12 and freaking out that it could be poisonous, I get worked up over nothing). It was also really great to go somewhere that light pollution is not a factor, out in the desert, away from the city, you could see the stars for miles. It was a life-changing experience living there. Now I have a HSC to do :reading: and a job to support my bonsai :) , so over the next 2 years, bonsai is about the middle on my priorities list  . I'm actually really glad that this site exists, so many people and so much knowledge to share, I love it. :aussie: :aussie: :aussie:
