Cheaper Chinese pots don't have holes for wire used in securing your tree when newly re potted ...does anyone on here drill their own holes or don't worry about it
If you do ...do you run the drill on low or high speed

Start small bits and increase gradually in bit size until desired holes achieved. Remember to use warm water in between too, not together, but drill a couple of times and a few drop of water to lubricate...

Hi Barr1 , mate i usually run wire around and under the pot , that's if i wire a tree in which case is very rare .You can use a masonry bit as FMB has said but nowadays you can purchase a little diamond tile cutter for drilling holes in tiles . It cuts in no time and doesn't chip the pot and less chance of breakage . They are about $15-$20 per drill , run on low speed with running water and let the diamonds cut don't push the drill cutter .

You can put a larger piece of wire across the drainage hole from underneath and attach some wire for tying in. As you tighten the wire on top it pulls the "bar" across the hole snug to the underside of the pot.

G,day Barry if it has no holes it is not meant for Bonsai.

If it has one or two holes like most pots for Bonsai, the best way to secure them is as I have shown in the pictures. I hope this of help, cheers Pup

Get a real bonsai pot, if they dont have wire holes they are not worth haveing.

Hi Barry ,if you live in the country and have trouble finding pots i have about 10 or so you can have at no cost, all very nice pots that my trees have got to big for.What part of the world are you from if you can arrange some way of pick up you can have them.

A fairly SIMPLE and straight forward way....just use the already existing drainage holes!!! Wire through the drainage mesh!! Problem solved and no dangerous drilling involved

But if you only have one drainage hole....hmmm this is indeed an issue. You could probably buy a new pot with the cash your gonna spend on drill bits! or do what the guy above did (pup)...that was an awesome approach!
