Hi all ,

This is a small tree that i collected late last year. I'm still unsure of what it is but suspect it may be a Kunzea, a little time may reveal the answer.
i decided to repot today, and this is what happened ,

The tree stands 220mm high , 250mm wide ,280 deep and has a trunk of 43mm.
The pot is from Mudlark pottery and is 190mm wide x 125 by 44 deep.

Nice one Craig, will look very good short time by the way it is going now.

Great looking trunk Craig Do you have any problems when you trim back the roots heavily on natives ? I have had mixed results when I try to get them into a bonsai pot.

Nice Looking Tree with a nice pot to match. I like Bougy Fan have a lot of trouble transplanting natives into a bonsai pot. I have tried in Spring/Summer /Autumn,and had failures in all 3. Any tricks Craig.

Each type of tree differs in the way i go about rootpruning when repotting. This particular tree i know near nothing about yet, I do know it grows fairly vigorously, backbuds well but eraticly,responds well to hard pruning, has very thin new shoots which droop somewhat and likes a moderate amount of water. I didn't trim alot of roots from the tree but alot of dead roots were raked out and only 3 bigger ones trimmed back. I won't be getting carried away with it until it builds strong roots and i learn more about it.

Great to see someone else with a mystery tree It is a beautiful little trunk, its only with a hand to compare I realised how small it is. Bonsai pots make the best growing pots, really nice spread of roots for wild stock, whatever your doing is obviously working

The Mudlark pot is a great match, I really like this clay and you have in my opinion chosen the best side as the front. I love Penny's work & its great to see she is continually exploring new ideas.

Look forward to watching this one progress & eventually knowing what it is.

I have now identified this one most likely to be Baekia camphorosmae, it puts up little red air roots from the soil .

This Baeckea has very fine bones indeed. What you've done with the base of the trunk allows it to blend in better with the colours further up. Did it come from wet ground?

Indeed it does Gavin, it is a rather interesting little tree with small white flowers. With the base of the trunk I have only "cleaned out" the bark which still covered the natural Shari's, the tree originally came from ground which was bone dry, very sandy black dirt/ old grazing land. cheers mate
