Juniperus squamata prostrata, also known as pingii.

A prostrate juniper as the name suggests, it is used extensively in Bonsai. There are plenty sold at the markets and the big B sheds. There are some good examples around.

They are also used a lot in pheonix grafts wrap arounds or Tanukis. That is they are fixed to pieces of dried drift wood.

Search the word tanuki.

Cheers Pup

I have a few junipers at home that look a lot like these especially the foliage yet they are marked as procumbens nana. what are the differences between the two?

Looks like Procumbens "Nana" to me too. The foliage on Jun. Pro. Nana is more spiky in its adult form compared to Jun. Squam. prost (Pingii) which tends to be more rope-like or not spiky in is adult form.Jun Pingii is a far superior plant to work with as it is less prone to pests and diseases and is more compact.

To me it looks like Juniper procumbens, but not "nana", as the foliage is too coarse.

I have two trees sitting side by side at the collection at the moment and the difference in the foliage between the two is quite amazing.

I will post some photos on Monday.

On second look, you are probably correct. It's a bit hard to tell from a photo. :tu2:
