I have invented a new mix. I call it the 'takes off paint, a tiny bit of rust and shows the true colours'

A couple of the tools i once purchased from a 7 piece 'Carbon Steel' bonsai tool set, I don't use much and hence have collected some rust. I thought, what the heck - probably a good time to clean ALL of my tools (some given to me, some purchased individually).

I got bucket..

1 x handful of table salt
2 x cups of white Vinegar
1.5 x cups of lemon juice
1/4 x cup of cooking oil
2 x cups of water



I let all my tools soak in the bucket for about 2 hours....(ok I somehow forgot about it after 15 min)

when I removed them, to my surprise I found...

a) a lot of rust was still there
b) any 'paint' from the carbon steel tools was eaten away and
c) an angry wife!!

So if anyone out there wants some tri - colour tools...follow the above steps

Mild acid pickle does the job. At least for the rust - can't help with the wife!

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning to clean my tools the same way.
