It was time to bite the bullet, this maple has a nice enough trunk but the roots were terrible.
Last November I decided to grow new roots. It took me ages to saw through and sever the old roots

You have to be pleased when a plan comes together You will now have fun making root selection a few years down the track.

Nice improvement Gerard, I am wondering if you were tempted to airlayer a bit higher up and go for a triple trunk? Have the lower 3 branches been retained for design purposes or are they in place to thicken the trunk and be removed at a later date?
