Collected Callistemon styling advise please

Hi all,
I collected this from a job site I was on in spring 2011. The textured bark and tapered trunk is what I like about it most. Since collection, I've been working on developing growth closer to the trunk by constantly tip pruning the new growth.
My original thought was to develop a literati from it, however just recently I noticed a photo of a Maple in one of my Bonsai books that I think might be an achievable design to work towards.
The Maple has a similar trunk line with two trunks crossing over to form a broom sort of style.
So at the moment my two options are Literati or this crossed over broom style.
I've already started the initial wiring of the two trunks, working towards the crossed broom style of the Maple, but I'm not 100% sold on this design for my tree.
I'm keen to make my decision before spring as to make the most of the next growing season.
Your thoughts would be appreciated, a virt. would be even better :tu:
Cheers,
Sam

I like your idea. The tree will suit that style and it will be a little different to what is normally seen by this species so that should set it apart.
I'm no expert at bottle brush, but don't get too excited and "over work" your tree. In a couple of years with your climate you will have a very good looking tree.
Please don't forget to update us.

Nice start to a trunk. I would not be worrying about tip pruning to get growth closer to the trunk. These should bud back strongly on older wood if its healthy so I would allow some free growth to make sure it has recovered and developed some good roots, cut back hard to force new shoots then use tip pruning to keep the new growth compact.

The basic style of the maple is ok but I'm not sold on the crossing trunks. I'd get rid of one and concentrate on growing a good tree with the other. :2c:

thx shibui,

It's good to know these back bud easy.
I do like the image of the crossed trunks on the maple. Maybe because it breaks the so call rules.
I'm just not sure if it will work for this tree.
mmmm indecision....

Cheers,
Sam
