I picked up a plum a few months ago and i plan on repotting it after it flowers.
I dont know much about the Prunus and and looking at trying to get some more ramification on it -
Do these respond to pruning much like other deciduous trees?

iliya i have a couple of plums but have not been doing bonsai very long so i cant comment from experence . but i think they are treated differently to any other trees . try googling (peter tea bonsai blog plum) . and you can read a good article direct from an aprentice in japan .

What does that do Paddles,don`t understand

From my experience I would recommend that you re-pot in mid August before flowering. If trimming, mid August is also a good time and always trim to a bud that is going in the direction you want the branch to go.
A photo is always useful for giving advice.

I repotted this tree 4 weeks ago into a larger pot to try a regain a bit more vigour into it and try to get as much ramification on the branches, its starting to flush out and flower now - I will post some more pix as more flower buds open.

What a great starting point - nice tree

what a lovely trunk line
For me I wold cut back the top section about 1/2 way along the straight section that goes up to the left to about 11 oclock.
The trunk below that shows nice movement ad taper, then this one section goes dead straight for too long.

The is a branch along that section goes to the right that would make the new apex.

here is a update pic of how this tree has developed over the past 6 months....
I am looking forward to seeing how it blooms this season as its a lot healthier now.
