Hey guys,

First an foremost... yes that is a chopstick...
I have some nebari developing on the tree, nice and radial as you can see. (hmm... that rhymed). The issue is they're mostly on one side and there is about a one inch gap where no nebari development is taking place whatsoever.
What is the best option in a case such as this to begin nebari development so that it catches up with the rest?

Any other critiques etc are welcome! (There are some branches on this thing that look silly, but I'm leaving them for now just because...)

You can scrape the cambium to stimulate growth or drill a small hole and apply some rooting hormone with a toothpick inserted in the hole. I personally dont bother to much with a Wisteria as they lend themselves to gnarly, crossed over roots naturally and dont look bad that way.

Don't worry about it and at the next repot, tilt it to the bare side.

Sounds like a plan! Gotta love Wistys Hopefully will have a nice little pot to put it in over the next few years.

is this naturally developed or did you recently expose these roots? if it is natural and these roots have survived being exposed then i am intrigued as to what species this is.
My experience with this genus has consistently yielded the same result: exposed roots die,and more often than not lead to the demise of the plant! so as i said if it has been surviving i would love more details

I exposed these particular roots a while ago, however soon as I did I wrapped the whole pot in a black plastic bag with a hole cut out for the tree (it's a little more invovled then just a hole but lets keep it at that for now haha) which allowed the roots to be covered just enough until they develop a more woody like exterior without drying out and dying. Also below these roots are several other roots which are clinging on very firmly (I allowed these to develop before exposing the carefully placed roots you see). So far, so good. I'll keep you posted though!

Just an update - buds are swelling nicely despite exposed roots. Loving life right now

First year I've had it actually! But these buds are looking friendly I tells ya! If It flowers though I'll be incredibly excited .

I have a few Wisteria with exposed roots and they grow fine and flower well. The biggest problem i have found with the species is not with exposed roots but that they are thirsty so need to ensure well watered

Speaking of flowers, the buds popped and I'm seeing tiny little flowers in development! WOOOOOOOOOOOP!
