hawthorn

matt-j's post in 'pests and diseases"reminded me -its probably 300mm from pot rim to top-any advice on getting this indian hawthorn to back bud--any styling suggestions welcome---possible removal( do they airlayer easily?)at red line then jin and use the bottom branch as new leader-any tip pruning removes this years flowers and fruit

These backbud quite readily but you have to be prepared to cut back..HARD. Hawthorns are generally a bit of a bugger to layer and can take anything up to a year. My experience has been that they heal over but i have layered successfully.

many thanks--reckon I'll cut back after flowering when its a bit warmer
