It has been wet,wet,wet here in Daylesford and has brought my repotting to a screaming HALT. But it has given me an opportunity to get some carving done on some trees i have had earmarked for said carving. A Coprosma that i air layered off my very big guy and a beautiful Ulmus that has been screaming for attention. I used a Makita die grinder for the intitial work and a dremel to get into the more delicate work. Both are unfinished and will require a lot more detail but i will wait until they weather a bit to see where i want to go with them. Comments positive or negative welcomed and appreciated also if you can see more than i can advice is welcome.

Just thought I would rub it in, nice fine sunny day in Brisvagas, but I'm at work and on-call all weekend.
The white pot is too pretty for the rough carved tree. I think it needs a hard straight edged, unglazed brown pot, without cloud feet.
For my 2 cents worth I do not like any of the three pots, but I'm sure they work well as training pots.
I do like the trees and the rock.

Training pots they are But i am reserving judgement on the Ulmus until it leaf's out. it might soften the whole composition

Love the carving on the elm very in keeping with the size and scale.

Not sure about the pot though looks too new, clean, pristine against a tree that shows a lot of age and character. Being a lighter colour, visually, it also over exaggerates the depth of the pot.

IMO this tree would look great on a dark grey slab

Coprosma and pot combo works better though, 'maybe front?' #1 would be my choice for front

It may be raining, but at least you've got some daylight and some sheltered space to do something on your trees I'm just hoping for some clear skies on Sunday to get some repotting done

I know, not bad training pots but i have a glut of these sorts of pots and i might as well use them for something. Still got my fingers crossed for the ulmus as it leaf's out. it might not look to bad in there.

Great work on both trees. You should be very proud. I don't mind the white pot. Keep up the good work.

Hi Bodhi , mate love the training pots . I have given up on boxes and plastic pots except for yamadori .Even my shari tree's look better in bonsai training pots . Very nice carving too . I will have plenty of spare time coming up so i will have to take up the carving caper again , I need to weed the plants to find them first .

I have been working on my Coprosma's and an update is needed. The fat little blobby one will be carved within an inch of its life. It was sold and the customer wants it carved so i will be teaching him how to wield a Die grinder. Should be fun Both trees were layered off my large Coprosma and were the biggest layers i have ever done. I have refined and sulpered the larger tree and it is now starting to become something.
