This tree is the classic case of..dont throw a tree away..Hence the name,"The ugly creepy elm". The name has stuck and i wont change it. The tree is still, i think, ugly, but it has taken on a mysterious, eery feeling which i like a lot. It reminds me of one of those creepy trees you see in a forest scene in Harry Potter or something similar. The tree was collected in 2006 ish and it sat and sat and sat because i had no interest in it and i could not sell it. I spotted its creepiness one day when walking past it at dusk and fell in love with it. It has since been carved and had several thread grafts which are still growing. It now has a new pot and totally wired for its new future. Please enjoy its creepiness.

Looks like itll be a very unique tree, reminds me of the halloween competition trees i saw on another website.

Maybe you could plant some black mondo grass around the base of the tree and make a noose out of twine.....

Far too ugly for such a nice pot, I think you should send me the pot & find something more suited to the monstrosity...

"it's aliiiiive".... only a mother ( or father) could love...it is different and for that reason I like it... Some twisted branches and fine ramification and it will be a nice tree

I like it, some thing different. Reminds me of the old Walt Disney movie Sleepy Hollow.

That is butt ugly (in a really cool kinda way) I love it. In the second last photo could you join the top scar and the hollow that you have carved already together so it becomes a scar (shari) down the trunk. Might look more natural. Hope that makes sense.

I have a "maybe I should have just tossed it away" elm with a similar euro, it has a large, flatish base and a reasonably thick trunk which has only a slight taper...I've been meaning to do something with it , but...(you know how that goes).

Your images hae inspired me to get on with it and have a go at improving this ugly duckling. It needs pruning, but now that I've seen yours, and been reminded of just how usefull thread grafts are, I'll turn those elongated shoots into branches in those areas with "gaps" and put a few through the lower part of the trunk to try to thicken it up and add more taper.

Sweet tree wouldnt mind it my self some say ugly but i say not to me this has loads of potential is the front going to be the 2nd to last picture 3-5yrs time with good ramification an this tree will stand out from the rest by the way how big is this tree
