Well i thought i would do my first repot for the year and this elm said i'm ready. I went to Chris White looking for a round pot and after looking at a few he disappeared out the back and came out with this one and i said sold. This elm has so many problems going on with it and the frog legs being one of the big ones but i thought i would put it in its first pot to see where to go from here. Air layer and a chop will fix it but for now i will try and keep it all as one. I had to choose a round pot only because of where it sits on my bench and i could not find a front but after it was in the pot i rather like this as the front. Not sure on the rocks and if there is supposed to be odds or evens with one tree but i really dont give a hoot about that. Anyway its always good to look at a tree in a fresh new way and i rather like its new look.

Mark , if we were to call this Penjing then I LOVE IT.

To my eye there looks to be two trees in there.

The only reason I au that is because the left trunk I very much the same thickness with very little taper up 2/3rds of its length, it's make te tree look a little heavy but on the other hand for some reason the tree also works quite well as it is which I can't quite put my finger on why, but it does.

If you layered off the left branch, and thickened up the base with some sacrifice branches you could have two very mixes with a change of planting angle on the right hand trunk.

For me, this tree is gracefully balanced. If you chop and change it, you may get something that follows the rules, and looks like other trees, but it will lose it's own special essence. That's the Penjing thing, to me, as Craig said.

It has something special. Make sure that anything you do makes it better, not just ordinary.

Thanks for the comments and replys, i thought it had a penjing look to it but i was very reluctant to call it as penjing. I am enjoying looking at this tree on my bench now and will not be doing anything drastic to it. Thanks again and i'm glad you liked it.
