I know somewhere we can set air layers on mature ambers, Japanese maples, english elms and maybe a few other mature nursery grown material, itll be a day trip because its about an hour from where i am mate. Once it warms up that is.

I picked up a heavy trunked palmatum recently on Freecylce & missed out on 2 more by half an hour.

Don't know of anywhere to collect but know of a cache of old nursery stock thats just waiting for someone to claim them ;)

Also off topic, I'm in Newie and new to bonsai. Keen to hear about any proposed digs. Also keen to meet local enthusiasts.

Pat & X,
It would be good to meet you both, I dont drink but usually up for a dig or even just a fat chewing :tu2:
With developers gaining approval to tear up another chunk of local bush their is lots of potensai just waiting to be dug. Mainly natives with some introduced species including loads of privet.

With a bit of work :D This is the base of one I picked up last year, it has spent the season in the ground, I will be digging soon to do root work & maybe start on giving it some direction up top...
