G'day all, this Black pine was started a while ago in another thread
( viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8745&hilit=+drill+o ... =15#p99001 )

This was the pine before major work.
And this was after the drill out work.


That was last August , the tree recovered ok but I lost the very top section , It was going well but in the summer heat it wasn't able to cope. I put this down to splitting a branch which was not thick enough to handle the setback before recovering. I needed to give the tree back some direction as the leader was lost so I changed a few things and moved it out of the rather ordinary soil into some bonsai medium.
This is how it looks now, a change of fronts for now and see what happens this year.


I'd love to hear what people think, if anything you don't like , let me know.

I think its destiny is to be a short tree

You have two lower branches there, I think it is pretty good already for this height.

I feel uneasy about the curve in the leader? Do you have any plan to work on the leader in the future?

I think it is recovery mode. I would not do anymore work on it during this growing season.

I am looking forward to its progression.

once again lovely tree, I love the direction you have taken it, and I also enjoy the pot choice.

Perhaps a little more to the left , rather than center ?

Do you plan on trimming the needles at all ?

Hi Daiviet ,I also feel uneasy about the "loop" . With the foliage that died back it made alot more sense but now , well plans can change fairly quickly in Bonsai land , so a new approach will be taken. Recovery mode for a while yet so I don't lose it..

Hi Paul, I didn't plant in any particular position yet, just growing on at this stage but I like this pot also . This direction is the 2nd choice paul, i'm still up for this type of angle later on.
