(ID) possible lillypily - or not

Hi all,

I got this from a nursery (bargain bin), possibly as a future air layer candidate depending on what sort of growth it gets after it's been left alone for a while (although I think it may not have that much potential) but I also just like the tree (and I have five acres and a soft spot for rejects so....... )

I think they tried to turn it into a standard going off the previous pruning, and I felt a bit sorry for it. The lady at the nursery thought it MAY be a lilly pilly, but she wasnt anywhere near sure. Does anyone here have any ideas what it may be?

Thanks in advance,
Kristy

It might be Acmena smithii, which is related to lilly pillies, or one of the green leafed metrosideros (NZ Pohutukawa).
