I thought I might post my pieris after seeing bohdi post his. This was collected last spring from a very generous person how was cleaning out a section of their yard. I believe it was planted in the early 80s and has developed a very nice stance and spreading nebari. The pot is about 1m wide and the roots reach out quite close to the edge. Thoughts? Butts for those who are game? Go crazy with it people!

Have you thought about reducing the height?
Lovely trunk and base and could be much more powerful if lower

Thanks for the replies people. Ken, I am definitely going to shorten it back but I was just leaving some greener wood as I was unsure how well they back budded and also how easy they were to dig out of the ground. Seems they are easy. I have another monster with white flowers and a big twisting trunk. But not as good nebari.

Bohdi, don't burn your 'twig' it is lovely and I am sure it brings you joy every time it flowers!

Big trees are great, as long as you have some help when it comes to moving them!

Be careful shortening the trunks too much there Jarrod.
The roots at the base look like they have a particular purpose in terms of supply to one side and the other. It has an awesome base on it as KC says.

Have fun with it, they make a great Bonsai

Yeah further shortening wont be done lightly. Here is a picture of the base with a can for reference.

I'd feed and pinch for a couple of seasons and see how far back you can get it to bud.

One growing over the top of the other?
Or have I had too many coffees today?
Either way they would have fused by now.

That is very nice Jarrod, I also would be fearful of cutting too much off. It seems it could handle the larger trunks. Look forward to seeing where you go?
