Trident Maple Group

I put the basics of this group together many years ago (1977; my how time flys). It started out as 7 trees, then 5, then lots.

It needs some work this year. Thickening up the skinny apex on some of the older larger trees with a sacrifice branch or three and more refinement on some of the smaller ones.

I can still feel this one in my grasp......maybe another day!

Cheers,

Ah if only I thought to plant one out when I was 7 yeras old ;)
Would you consider a smaller pot. Maybe it is different when in leaf but at the moment I get the feeling the trees are very tight but with too much room around the outside of the group. Maybe some more trees at the back for better depth
The arrangment gives a very pleasing effect thanks for showing :)

1977... I was a foetus for part of 77! But hey, can still proudly say I am a 70's boy by just two years.

Nice group planting! Do you have a photo in full-leaf glory? Though, maples are truly grown for their silhouettes and maple colors aren't they! Gorgeous trees.

Very nice Grant! Did it have a nice show of colour this year?

Steven

A number of good thoughtful posts.

When I lived at Yerrinbool I had all my trees in full sun all day long and all year round. The large trees in the group struggled a bit so I put it into a bigger pot. Where I live in Canberra my trees are in more shade and the deciduous trees are doing better in Summer that way. I could go back to a smaller pot to lighten the load and make the trees more dominant again.

However in leaf it looks OK.

More small trees are always an option but small trees tend to struggle for light in a big group.

Because it was in shade this year the color was not so good and it was overgrown a little. I gave it an autumn tidy up and will hopefully have some outside benches for better color next year.

I have some Black and White photos from 1977 but they are a bit scary. You see the bonsai progression of a young man with hair to a grumpy old bugger.

This old Trident maple group will be up for sale at the Ausbonsai sale day.

It will not be cheap as it is an old and big group! It was my first ever demo of any substance that I can remember.

I will post a photo within a week or two as it is putting out lots of new growth after a hard prune about 4 weeks ago. It will need a light prune again in about a week.

If any one is interested they can PM me for a rough price.

Grant

The staff and the volunteers at the NBPCA are keeping it in magnificent condition. Better than when it was with me,

I don't think I have touched it for about 2 years. I tend to work on pines when I am volunteering.
